Aesculus hippocastanum

The white horse chestnut is a fast-growing tree from the soapberry family. The species naturally occurs in the Balkans. It is widely planted in other temperate regions of the world because of its ornamental value. In our country, it has been frequently planted in fortified cities, so that if the city was besieged, the horses could be fed with the chestnuts.
